Don’t put the same level of effort into every cover letter.

The more you care about a job, the more elements you should include:

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝟭: 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰, 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲

Connect back how you have the required qualifications they are looking for in the role — or you’re going to get screened out.

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝟮: 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 & 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁

You’d be surprised how many people are dropping resumes and showing up to interviews with no idea what a product actually does.

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝟯: 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 & 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

How you have solved similar problems, how you acknowledge the gap, etc…

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝟰: 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲

It’s a high-reward gamble that, more often than not, encourages the cover letter to at least acknowledge you have done more work than almost everyone else.
