How I 3x’d My Salary by Building My Personal Brand
Four years ago, I was earning $275,000 at Epic Games. Today, I regularly turn down VP and CPO offers worth well over $750,000. The difference wasn’t a promotion, a new degree, or even changing my technical skills. It was something most people told me was a waste of time: building my personal brand.
This is the story of how consistent content creation transformed not just my career trajectory, but my entire relationship with opportunity itself.
The Nights That Changed Everything
Back when I was deep in the product world at Epic Games, I started doing something that seemed completely unrelated to my day job. After putting the kids to bed, during quiet weekend mornings, and through long nights when the house was finally still, I began writing company deep dives for LinkedIn.
Week after week, I showed up. I analyzed business models, broke down product strategies, and shared insights about the companies reshaping our digital landscape. The engagement was modest at first. A few likes here, a comment there. Most of my colleagues thought I was spinning my wheels.
“Why are you spending your evenings writing LinkedIn posts?” they’d ask. “Shouldn’t you be focusing on your actual job?”
