Stop Wasting Money on AI: The 3-Step Framework That Actually Works

5 min readJun 27, 2025

If you’re building AI and don’t know whether to prompt, fine-tune or use RAG, here’s everything you need to know.

The Double-Edged Sword of LLMs

Using LLMs is a double-edged sword.

On one hand, you’re basically getting unpaid interns 24/7.

On the other, they don’t understand the bigger picture.

They don’t:

  • Know your internal acronyms
  • Understand the world of your customers
  • Understand your product’s edge cases and scenarios
  • Speak in your brand’s voice

And if you leave them untouched, you’ll get: • Hallucinated answers • Generic responses
• Off-brand tone

That’s where these three techniques come in.

Technique 1: Prompt Engineering (Fastest, cheapest, lowest effort)

You’re just giving clearer instructions with proper context.

Use this when:

  • You’re prototyping
  • The model kinda knows what you want
  • You want better results without infra work
